Before you hit print.
Printing checks at home works, but it’s not free and it’s not instant. Here’s what you’ll want on hand before you start.
- 01Required
Pressure-seal check stock.
This tool is calibrated for one specific stock — SKU NDL-Z-G, green pressure-seal tri-fold checks (250-pack). Other stock sizes or layouts will print misaligned: the check body, MICR line, and mailing addresses won't land on the right panels.

A home printer.
Print on your own printer — not a print shop. Staples, Office Depot, or cloud-print services would expose your routing and account numbers to staff or a remote queue. At home, the PDF never leaves your device.
- 03Recommended
MICR magnetic toner.
Banks read the MICR line at the bottom of the check magnetically. Standard laser toner clears fine for mobile-deposit apps and most ATMs, but MICR toner gets the highest acceptance rate at teller windows. Available for most laser printers on Amazon or directly from the manufacturer.
- 04Required
A first-class stamp.
A single first-class stamp ($0.73 as of 2026) covers the folded pressure-seal mailer anywhere in the US. Available at any post office, most grocery stores, or stamps.com.

Home-printed checks, answered.
- Is it legal to print my own checks?
- Yes. U.S. banks accept any check that meets the ANSI X9 standards — a MICR line in E-13B font, correct routing and account numbers, and proper paper stock. This tool formats the check the same way your bank would.
- What check paper should I use?
- This tool is calibrated for one specific check stock: SKU NDL-Z-G (green pressure-seal tri-fold, 250-pack). Every coordinate — the check body, the MICR line, and the mailing addresses — is dialed in for that exact stock. Using other paper will print misaligned. See the 'What you'll need' section for a direct purchase link.
- Is my banking information safe?
- Everything stays in your browser. Your routing and account numbers are never sent to Check Supply or any other server — the check is built and printed entirely on your device.
- What is the MICR line?
- The MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) line is the row of numbers at the bottom of every check that banks use to route it. This tool prints it in the proper E-13B font so the check scans correctly at your recipient’s bank.
- Do I need special ink?
- For checks deposited in person at a bank branch, MICR (magnetic) toner is recommended. Most checks deposited via mobile apps or remote deposit capture will clear with regular laser toner, but for reliable results use MICR toner.
- Can I skip the printer entirely?
- Yes — that’s what Check Supply does. Enter the recipient and we print, stamp, and mail the check for you, starting at $6.99. Our app handles everything.
